2009

University of New Haven

The student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) at the University of New Haven (UNH) was established in 1990. Since that time, the chapter has developed programs that enhance the educational experience of student members and has promoted the field of HR Management. SHRM-UNH earned its ninth straight Superior Merit Award in May 2007.

We maintain close ties to the HRA of Greater New Haven and to our alumni in the field. The SHRM-UNH student chapter members:

  • Provide local HR departments with competent, energetic interns
  • Support a Mentor-Protege program to enable professional relationships to grow
  • Invite speakers to share their professional experiences and expertise in human resources management
  • Host workshops and seminars on a variety of HR topics, including sexual harassment awareness, employment law and salary/compensation negotiation
  • Offer Job Shadowing opportunities for members to visit various HR work sites
  • Coordinate PHR Study Sessions for members of SHR and the HRA (PHR is the Professional Human Resources Certification Exam, recognized by leading companies nationwide)
  • Attend Human Resources Association of Greater New Haven (HRA) dinner meetings and other professional meetings related to HR
  • Attend ASTD dinner meetings and speaker events

The Greater New Haven HRA and SHRM-UNH have a strong, mutually beneficial relationship. We are always looking for internship opportunities, mentors, speakers, workshops and PHR Study Session leaders.
